History of Lake Jasna in Kranjska Gora

Lake Jasna is one of the most famous natural attractions in Kranjska Gora and one of the most visited places in the Julian Alps. Located at the confluence of the Mala Pišnica and Velika Pišnica streams, Lake Jasna was arranged for tourism and leisure, creating a peaceful alpine setting just a short walk from the centre of Kranjska Gora.

Today, Lake Jasna is known for its clear water, mountain views, and easy walking paths, but its location also has historical and practical importance. The area developed as a recreational point connected to the natural landscape surrounding Kranjska Gora, while nearby visitors can also discover a small natural canyon and the hidden Kranjska Gora hydroelectric power plant.

Around Lake Jasna, visitors can enjoy scenic walking trails and relaxing views of the surrounding peaks. The area is also the starting point for the forest route into the Mala Pišnica Valley, although parts of the former trail were abandoned after the 1980 earthquake. Because of its easy access and beautiful setting, Lake Jasna remains one of the best places to visit in Kranjska Gora for a short walk, photography, or a peaceful stop in nature.

One of the best-known symbols of Lake Jasna is the bronze ibex statue standing on a natural rock above the water. Created by the sculptor Stojan Batič between 1986 and 1988, the statue has become one of the most recognisable landmarks in Kranjska Gora and a popular photo spot for visitors from Slovenia and abroad.

With its combination of alpine scenery, local history, and easy access, Lake Jasna is much more than just a lake. It is one of the most iconic places in Kranjska Gora and an essential stop for anyone exploring the Vršič Pass, the Julian Alps, or the wider Triglav National Park area.
