In Slovenia, mountain rescuers increasingly assist poorly equipped, inadequately conditioned, uneducated, and irresponsible hikers. There’s a belief that this is only possible in Slovenia where rescue is free, unlike abroad where rescue is chargeable, leading to fewer such cases.
The public immediately gets upset, thinking that it’s all ours. No one realizes that someone has to take care of all the hiking trails, huts, and infrastructure, which involves financial investment. This cost must come from those who use and, in some way, also damage it.
Usually, many mountain huts in Slovenia have a suggestion box, similar to a piggy bank, near the toilet doors. Some kind of donation if you will pay for the service. But people avoid putting something in it too often because it is too easy just to walk away.
We eagerly await the opportunity to share our stories with you and embark on this literary journey together.
