Can I Cook at Erjavčeva Koča?
Cooking is not allowed inside Erjavčeva mountain hut. For safety reasons, guests are not allowed to cook in sleeping rooms, hallways, common areas, bathrooms or any other indoor guest area of the hut.
We also do not provide a shared guest kitchen, shared refrigerators, a shared freezer or a microwave for guest use. Please plan your food accordingly before arriving at Vršič Pass.
Why Is Cooking Not Allowed?
Erjavčeva Koča is a mountain hut, not an apartment or self-catering hostel. Cooking inside the hut creates fire risk, electrical overload, smoke, smells, spills and hygiene problems. It can also disturb other guests, especially in shared sleeping areas.
For this reason, the use of camping stoves, gas burners, electric cookers, kettles, grills, open flames or similar cooking equipment is not allowed inside the hut.
Can I Cook Outside?
Open fire is not allowed in Triglav National Park. Visitors should not make fires, use improvised fireplaces or cook in unsafe places around the hut. The area around the hut is part of a protected mountain environment, and fire safety is taken seriously.
If you carry your own food, please choose food that does not require cooking, or eat before arrival. Do not prepare meals in places where this could create fire risk, litter, smell or disturbance for other guests.
Do You Have a Shared Kitchen, Fridge or Microwave?
No. We do not have a shared kitchen for guests. We also do not provide shared refrigerators, shared freezers or a microwave for guest use.
Please do not expect to store personal food in hut refrigerators. Our kitchen and refrigeration space are used for hut operations and food safety. In exceptional cases, staff may help with a small urgent item if space allows, but this is not a guaranteed service.
Food and Restaurant at the Hut
The hut has a restaurant open daily for our guests and visitors. This is the best option if you want a warm meal, drinks, breakfast or something to eat after hiking, cycling or travelling across Vršič Pass.
Eating at the hut also helps reduce waste, food smells in rooms and the need to carry cooking equipment into the mountains. It is the most practical and respectful option for a stay in a mountain hut.
Simple Rule for Guests
Please do not cook inside the hut and do not use private cooking equipment in guest areas. There is no shared kitchen, no guest fridge and no microwave. Use the hut restaurant or bring simple food that does not require cooking.
