Where Can I Dry Wet Clothes and Hiking Boots at Erjavčeva Koča?

If you arrive at Erjavčeva mountain hut with wet clothes, hiking boots or mountain equipment, please use the designated drying areas inside the hut. Drying wet gear in the right place helps keep the rooms, dining area and shared spaces clean, safe and comfortable for all guests.

Mountain weather on Vršič Pass can change quickly, so wet jackets, boots, gloves and backpacks are common after hiking, cycling or travelling through the Julian Alps. We understand that guests need to dry their equipment, but it must be done in the proper areas.

Where Can I Leave Wet Clothes?

Wet clothes can be hung on the hangers above the radiators in the rooms and in the hallways of the hut. Please hang your clothes carefully so they do not drip on beds, floors, furniture or other guests’ belongings.

If you are not sure where to put wet clothing, please ask the hut staff. They will show you the best available place depending on the season, room occupancy and current conditions in the hut.

Where Can I Dry Wet Hiking Boots?

For wet hiking boots and footwear, we have a boot dryer in the basement. The dryer uses warm air and UV light to help dry and freshen footwear more efficiently than leaving boots in the room or hallway.

Please use the boot dryer for hiking boots, trekking shoes and wet footwear whenever it is available. This helps keep the sleeping areas cleaner and reduces moisture inside the rooms.

Can I Use the Dining Room or Bread Oven?

No. The dining room, tables, benches and bread oven are not drying areas. Please do not place wet clothes, socks, gloves, shoes or equipment near the bread oven or around the dining room. These spaces are shared by all guests and must stay clean and comfortable for eating and resting.

Drying equipment in unsuitable places can disturb other guests, create bad smells, damage furniture or cause safety problems. Please use the designated drying areas instead.

Drying Room and Seasonal Use

The hut may also have additional drying space available during part of the year. This is more common in the low season or when the hut is less crowded. Use of extra drying space may depend on prior agreement with the hut staff.

During busy periods, drying space is limited. Please be considerate, use only the space you need and remove your dry items as soon as possible so other guests can use the area too.

Tips for Wet Mountain Gear

  • Shake off excess water outside before bringing wet gear inside.
  • Use hangers above radiators for wet clothes where available.
  • Use the basement boot dryer for wet hiking boots and shoes.
  • Do not dry clothes or footwear in the dining room.
  • Do not place wet equipment near the bread oven.
  • Ask the hut staff before using extra drying areas.
  • Remove dry clothes and boots promptly so others can use the space.

Simple Rule

Wet clothes belong on the hangers above radiators or in the designated drying areas. Wet hiking boots belong in the basement boot dryer. If you are unsure, please ask our staff before leaving your equipment somewhere.

Please ask our staff if you need to dry wet clothes, hiking boots or mountain equipment. The hut has hangers above radiators in the rooms and hallways, and a boot dryer with warm air and UV light in the basement.
Please do not dry clothes, socks, gloves, shoes or equipment in the dining room or near the bread oven. These are shared guest areas and are not intended for drying wet gear.
