The history of Predil Pass is closely linked with trade routes, borderland culture, mining and military heritage. The road over the pass has been important for centuries, connecting the Soča Valley with the Canal Valley and the wider Alpine region. In the 19th century, the area became strategically important for the Habsburg military, and the remains of Fort Predel still remind visitors of battles, defence systems and the turbulent history of this mountain border. Nearby Cave del Predil is also connected with mining heritage, while the Štoln tunnel once linked Log pod Mangartom with the mines across the border. From Erjavčeva mountain hut on Vršič Pass, Predil Pass can be included in a beautiful day trip through Trenta, Bovec, Log pod Mangartom, Mangart Saddle and Lake Predil, combining natural beauty, mountain roads, history and the cultural landscape of the Julian Alps.
