The importance of Tromeja lies in its cultural, geographical and historical position between the Slovenian, Italian and Austrian alpine worlds. The marked tourist trail to the summit can start in Rateče and is known as one of the most scenic routes in the Kranjska Gora area; the official route is about 7 kilometres long and leads through forest paths toward the border summit. At the top, monuments and border markers remind visitors that this peaceful viewpoint was once a much more sensitive frontier, while today it represents connection, friendship and cross-border alpine identity. Tromeja is especially interesting for families, hikers and cyclists because it combines accessible outdoor activity, beautiful views and a rare chance to stand in three countries at once. From Erjavčeva mountain hut on Vršič Pass, Tromeja can be included in a scenic day trip through Kranjska Gora, Rateče, Planica, Zelenci and the most beautiful cultural and natural sights of northwestern Slovenia.
