Log pod Mangartom Slovenia

The history of Log pod Mangartom is closely connected with borderland life, mining, mountain roads and the dramatic forces of nature. One of its most interesting features is the Štoln tunnel, a 4.5-kilometre passage opened in 1903 and linked with the former lead mine in Cave del Predil on the Italian side of the mountains. The village also carries the memory of the devastating landslide of November 2000, which destroyed part of the settlement and remains an important reminder of the power of alpine terrain. Today, Log pod Mangartom is a peaceful but meaningful stop for travellers exploring Bovec, Kluže Fortress, Mangart Saddle, Predil Lake, the Soča Valley and Triglav National Park. From Erjavčeva mountain hut on Vršič Pass, Log pod Mangartom can be included in a spectacular day trip through Trenta, Bovec, the Koritnica Valley and some of the most impressive mountain roads of the Julian Alps.
