Stol mountain, Slovenia
Mount Stol, also known as Veliki Stol or Hochstuhl, is the highest peak of the Karawanks mountain range, rising to 2,236 metres on the border between Slovenia and Austria. Its long grassy slopes, wide ridge and open summit views make it one of the most recognisable mountains in northern Slovenia. From Stol, hikers can enjoy panoramic views toward the Julian Alps, Lake Bled, the Ljubljana Basin, the Kamnik-Savinja Alps and the Austrian side of Carinthia. Because of its position on the natural border between Slovenia and Austria, Stol is not only a beautiful hiking destination but also an important geographical landmark in the alpine landscape of Central Europe.
