Trenta museum, Slovenia

Trenta Museum, also known as Dom Trenta or the Triglav National Park Information Centre, is one of the most important cultural and educational stops in the Trenta Valley and the wider Soča Valley. Located in the heart of the Julian Alps, it presents the natural and cultural heritage of Triglav National Park, including its geology, wildlife, traditional life, cultural landscape and the relationship between people and nature. For visitors travelling between Vršič Pass, Trenta, Bovec and the source of the Soča River, the museum is an excellent place to understand the mountain world before exploring it on foot, by car or through scenic day trips. Its exhibitions help explain why Trenta is not only beautiful, but also historically, ethnologically and environmentally important for Slovenia.

trenta museum, Slovenia

The history of Dom Trenta gives the museum additional meaning: the lodge was originally opened in 1953, became part of the Goriška Museum in 1958, and later developed into a major information centre of Triglav National Park. Today, visitors can discover exhibitions about the past life of the Trenta Valley, alpine heritage, the natural features of the park and the rich ethnological traditions of this remote mountain area. Among its most interesting features are the multimedia installations Secrets of Soča – Time Horizon, dedicated to the underwater world of the Soča River, and The Forest – Time Triptych, which presents the forests of the Julian Alps, Trenta and Pokljuka. From Erjavčeva mountain hut on Vršič Pass, Trenta Museum is an ideal stop on a day trip through Trenta, the Soča Valley, the Alpine Botanical Garden Juliana and the most meaningful natural and cultural sights of Triglav National Park.
