Gozd Martuljek is a peaceful alpine village near Kranjska Gora, located in the Upper Sava Valley beneath one of the most dramatic mountain skylines in the Julian Alps. The village is especially known for its magnificent views of Mount Špik and the wild Martuljek mountain group, which give this area a powerful and authentic alpine character. Historically, the settlement was known as Gozd or Rute, and in 1955 it received the name Gozd–Martuljek, connected with the forested landscape and the Martuljek stream. The importance of Gozd Martuljek lies in its direct connection with the Martuljek Waterfalls, the Špik mountain group and the protected nature of Triglav National Park. The Martuljek Waterfalls are among the most beautiful waterfalls in Slovenia, hidden below Špik in a landscape of forests, limestone cliffs, narrow gorges and rushing alpine water. The area was already recognised for its natural value in 1949, when it was declared a landscape park, and later became part of Triglav National Park in 1981. For visitors, Gozd Martuljek is a perfect place for hiking, photography, peaceful walks and discovering a less crowded side of the Julian Alps.
