The source of the Soča ricer, Slovenia
The source of the Soča River, known in Slovenian as Izvir Soče, is one of the most beautiful karst springs in the Julian Alps and one of the most important natural attractions in Triglav National Park. Hidden in the upper Trenta Valley, the emerald Soča begins its journey from a cave with an underground lake, where water collected from the surrounding peaks of Jalovec, Šite, Travnik and Mojstrovka rises to the surface. Soon after emerging, the water falls through a short rocky section and begins forming the clear alpine river that later flows through Trenta, Bovec, Kobarid, Tolmin and onward toward Italy. Because of its colour, purity and mountain setting, the Soča River is one of the most recognisable natural symbols of Slovenia.
